Wellington has undoubtedly the finest golf course of any school in the country. It is cut into the woods and has some challenging and beautiful holes. It is accompanied by driving range nets, a short game area and a putting green, as well as a driving range in spring and summer. The facility is primarily for school use, with a small membership of current parents and Old Wellingtonians.

The standard of Golf at Wellington is of the highest order.  Wellington was ranked no. 1 in the UK in 2009, 2011 and 2012 by the International Schools Golf Association, and the team has won:

  • The Independent Schools National Championships three times (2009, 2012 & 2015)
  • Independent Schools Home International winners (2013 and 2016)
  • The HG Trophy winners 2015
  • The HMC Foursomes (2011)
  • The ISGA Schools Cup 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 & 2015
  • The West Sussex Schools Invitational 2008, 2010 and 2011
  • The Gerald Micklem Cup on 8 occasions in the last 11 years.

Many Wellington golfers reach a very high standard during their career here, representing county and country, and competing both nationally and internationally.  The balance between their golfing development and their all-round Wellington education is given careful consideration. There are many who learn to play as complete beginners too.

The level of coaching is also second to none with two professionals assisting on a regular basis. Recreational golf is also popular, and many of our students enjoy these marvellous facilities at the weekend.
